The rock quartet Stillico was formed
in Paris in 2000, by the extravagant danish singer
Chris Dahl and the hyperactive bassist Emmanuel Donès.
Very creative, they wanted to bring
their many songs onstage, with amps but without playing
any cover. The story of Stillico begins ten years before.

The two musicians
Chris and Emmanuel know each other since 1990
and have often played together in several rockbands.
Both guitarists, one started singing and the
other took up the bass instead. They quickly
put a grunge band together, wrote own tunes and
began doing their first concerts. In 1993 a young
guitarist Stéphane Montiel saw them live,
and he asked Chris for some guitar teachings.
The student was quite talented and Stéphane
got then actually casted for joining Stillico
many years later, but didn't know it at that
time. All three guys played together and became
friends. From 1995 on, each one of Chris and
Stéphane had his own band, and Emmanuel
became a very demanded bassist in other projects
: he even happened to play in five bands at the
same time!

After several years in France, Chris
decided to go back to Denmark (1996) to form a pro
rockband. Then he also began to only play acoustic.
This went on for four years, Chris did a lot of live
and studio, and he especially became more and more
productive and wrote songs daily, plenty of songs.
Same time but in France, Emmanuel and Stéphane
kept their bands going with many concerts and recordings.
Emmanuel is ready for Stillico (2000) when Chris comes
back to France with a big song collection and an even
bigger desire of reforming a real rockband. And so
they do, in trio with a drummer, they record demoes
and find gigs all over Paris and its area.
At last available
for Stillico, the very electric Stéphane
joins in on guitar (2002) and fullfills the sound
that Emmanuel and Chris wanted for their band,
now a quartet in shape for live situations. Chris
has got less guitar to play, and can now concentrate
more on his singing, as his voice is the mark
of Stillico. The things speed up (2003), some
Stillico songs are chosen for short movies, and
the band goes on a local tv-station broadcast
playing two songs in playback, just like in the
old days. Needing a new drummer, Emmanuel suggests
Philippe Saugère with whom he plays in
a side project.

The band gets more determined and
begin to organize event outside France, mostly in Eastern
and Northern Europe, while they keep on playing gigs
in Paris area. It's finally a cultural exchange project
with hungarian rock band 30y, that becomes something.
First step (2004): Chris is invited to Hungary by Alliance
Française organization, for a concert in a festival.
It's an original event, he plays Stillico songs with
30y, and plays guitar with them on their songs. An
important radio program is done on the exchange project
between the two bands, and then the "Stillico
2" cd got played several times on radio in Hungary.
The next step will be a common tour in 2005.
Stillico's lyrics are in english and
french, and are served along with a powerful and dancing
rock music.
They sometimes happen to play as unplugged
duo in a more intimate mood, just Chris and Stéphane.
Two demo-cd's ("Stillico" in
2000, "Stillico 2" in 2002 ), concerts in
France and abroad, radio and TV broadcasts... and one
song chosen for a movie! Actual project : finishing
a 6-song EP and putting it out ( end of 2004 ). |
