Biography
Although he's from southfrance,
he grew up in Gagny, surrounded by many friends
playing music, and with the family house just
across the street in front of the local theater & concert
hall. At the very young age of 6 he wanted to
start classical guitar at the "Conservatoire
de Gagny", and so he did. His musical mind
and abilities to learn got him to progress in
classical guitar and musical theory, and he actually
studied there until the age of 20. But along
the way he stumbled on modern music, the 80's
pop and rock that rang on the radios inspired
him in a new direction, and brought Emmanuel
to play electric guitar from at age 12 on. When
he wasn't playing Bach with fellow students he
played in rock bands, and began going to many
concerts. At 15 he was in same class as Chris,
and the 2 already had same musical directions.
Both played guitar and started a band together, at the time none could be found
to play the thick strings of a bass, and as Emmanuel found an old electric
bass among Chris' many instruments, he couldn't keep himself from starting
playing those deep tones. Since then it became his main instrument, but he
never laid the guitar down, and remains flexible on both.
Since the age of 18 he's locally famous for being the only bassist able to
learn many songs fast, improvise easily and always playing live with energy;
plus , with his high pitched voice he's able to sing good backing harmonies.
For those reasons he quickly got caught by many bands in need of an all-round
bass player, and got to play with 5 bands in different styles, at the same
time. As he also sees the importance of knowing recording techniques, in order
to become a pro, he became a self-learned sound-engineer in the studio of the
city's youth club. He held this double-activity for years, until he wanted
to be more available for a new band with songs of their own, Stillico, at age
25.
Putting Stillico first, he manages to play several gigs with a cover band,
in various clubs in the Paris area.
Emmanuel says " We created a live band, Stillico, who has got
the same team in studio and on stage, who only plays own songs, without any
trick or extra musicians, and that is precisely a thing almost nobody does
anymore".
With huge live experience and a heavy studio routine, his sense of arrangements
and techniques makes him the organizer of Stillico, whenever they are arranging
a song or planning a recording session, he's the man they can't do without.
As a composer, he's responsible of all bass lines, but also most of the intros
and breaks in songs, and the vocal harmonies. |
